Ranking your ecommerce store and products on search engines is a very unpopular and mysterious concept to most people doing dropshipping or physical products ecommerce generally, yet it’s a hell of an easy task to fulfill, which will be pouring sales into your store for years to come.

The reason why it’s so unpopular is the fact that most gurus nowadays concentrate on Facebook Ads andInstagram Influencers, leaving no place for such easy methods. Another common reason why people don’t take this seriously is the thought that it’s impossible to compete with Amazon and other big businesses, which is absolutely wrong.

Today you will learn at what stage of your ecommerce journey you should optimize your content for search engines, and actually see results, and you will learn LITERALLY EVERYTHING you should start implementing in order for you to diversify your sources of traffic and start getting free organic sales from Search Engines directly to your Shopify store.

When To Start Optimizing For Seach Engines?

If you’re still struggling to find a winning product, this might not be for you, instead, try to read my Product Research Article, Facebook Ads and Instagram Influencers Marketing Strategies.

Once you find a winning product and you’re at the scaling phase, you may take some time to get SEO related things done. Why you shouldn’t be trying this while testing? It’s because Google and other search engines will not just come and get you rank higher until they spend some time testing and inspecting the quality of your content, and then if your content succeeded at their tests, you’ll get high domain authority.

How much time do I need to rank?

For new Ecommerce stores, it would take between 18-35 weeks (4-9 months) to reach the position your content deserves on Google.

If your content was seen by Google’s algorithms as quality content, you’ll see some good amounts of traffic coming to your website within 12-18 weeks, and it’ll keep on increasing as long as you post more content and optimize it for search engines.
But if these algorithms found out that your content is spammy or isn’t that helpful, your domain won’t be held as an authoritative domain, and you may end up not getting any organic traffic from Google at all.

So instead of focusing on SEO, focus on the things that are more likely to get you good results at your early stages such as getting consistent amounts of traffic, building an audience… and let Google and other search engines trust your business and give you higher authority.

How to get higher domain authority?

There are a lot of things algorithms consider when fetching and crawling your content.
The first thing you need to consider when trying to get higher domain authority is to make your visitors last longer on your landing pages.

When people spend time on your website, and go through multiple pages within the same domain, these algorithms see this as a good sign, they understand it as you’re giving value to your visitors.

The best way to do that is to write long and engaging content on your landing page.

Another helpful thing is having backlinks on authoritative websites that refer to your store.
There are more tips you can implement to get yourself started with this strategy, and I’ll make sure to include them in the next part of this article.

How to rank my Shopify store on search engines?

If you already have a successful store that’s been live for at least 2 months, and you are getting sales on a daily basis, you are way ahead of the others that are just getting started.

The reason why I say so, is because there are already people spending time on your website every day, and you have a few backlinks out there on Facebook if you ran some Facebook Ads campaigns.

But if you want to rank on the first page, or even at the top 3 spots when someone is looking for what you have to offer, you need to do some in-site optimization and link building.

On-Site Optimization:

This is basically the things that you need to optimize on your landing pages in order for you to get higher domain authority from Google and other search engines, these things are:

Long & Engaging Content:

I came from a blogging background, and I know how important it is to have long and quality content on my pages, I compared all my long and short articles, the longer my article is, the better position it gets on search engines, and the more organic visitors it gets.

I tried implementing this on my Shopify landing pages, and I was getting more organic traffic, so I can’t stress enough how important it is to write down long content for your landing pages.
You need to write a description with at least 350 word, less than that is not going to get you what you want.

Internal & Outbound Links:

It’s very important to have internal links within your landing pages, because if people click them, search engines’ algorithms see it as if people like your content, and want to see more.

A good way to add internal links is having a suggested product’s part at the bottom of your landing page. You can as well link to blog posts, contact us page, or order tracking page, and it’ll be held as an internal link.

Outbound links are a little less important than internal links, but it’s good if you add them.

If you sell on both Amazon and Shopify, you can link to your product from Amazon, or you can just send people to tracking websites such as and you’re good to go.

Lightweight Images With Alt Text:

Another thing Google and other search engines like is high quality and lightweight images that include an alt text.

You can add an alt text to all your product images from your Shopify dashboard by going to product’s section, go to an image and hover the mouse over it, you’ll see an “ALT” text, click it and then add the keyword you want to rank for as your alt text.

It’s very important to have reviews at your Landing Page, because these bots can detect them, and they’ll add them to your profile when they’re crawling your store.

Landing Pages with no review don’t end up being on the first page of most search engines, because these search engines care about their users too much, and want to make sure they’ll have a good experience within your store.

Youtube Video:

This one is highly recommended if you want to rank on Google especially. The reason Google likes it is because when people visit your page and watch the video, they add 1 view to the video on Youtube, so imagine 1000 person visits that particular page and watches the video, how many views will be added to the video on Youtube? you see what I’m talking about?

What you should do is always import one impressive version of your commercial videos to your Youtube channel, and then embed it to your landing page.

Meta Description & Slug:

After creating the flawless landing page you desire, make sure to include the keyword you’d like to rank for on your title, meta description, and slug.

Make sure to find a keyword that’s not very competitive so you can rank for it faster.

You may as well add a buyer intent keyword to your title such as Best or Review so you’ll make sure that the traffic you’ll receive is already qualified and ready to use their credit cards on your store.

About Us Page:

Recently in January 2019, there was a new update by Google, they added a new algorithm and they called it E.A.T.
Some of the previously top-ranked websites lost almost 50% of their organic traffic due to this new update, and a lot of bloggers and marketers were just losing their minds.

Google’s E.A.T was given that name because of 3 key things it holds as priorities:

E: Expertise. How knowledgeable are you when it comes to the subjects you do cover on your website? That’s why your store should go niche.

A: Authoritativeness. How credible your business is compared to other businesses in the same industry/niche?

T: Trustworthiness. Can people reading your content trust what you publish with their businesses?

Google has always been known for finding some powerful methods to prevent its users from being scammed or abused by others, and reward individuals and businesses sharing valuable content with their readers.

The best way to update your website to go along with this new algorithm is updating your about us page, and adding a biography page of the CEO and your brand’s team, an make sure every biography includes:

  1. Education & Degrees.
  2. Work Experience.
  3. Professional Certifications and Accomplishments.

When you do this, people will know who they’re dealing with, so as Google.

How to build Backlinks to your Shopify store:

Post Regularly On Social Media:

If you’re not posting on social media on a regular basis, you’re losing a huge potential audience that you could grow organically within 1 year.

I’m a HUGE fan of Pinterest, Instagram, and Youtube. People do actually spend a lot of their time on these platforms, they may spend more time on Instagram and Youtube than Pinterest, but my favored is Pinterest.

The thing that drives me into being in love with Pinterest is the fact that it’s designed to drive traffic to your website, and it’s easy to make your pins go viral, there are just few tasks you need to do every day, and within 2 months, you’ll be getting at least 100 visitors from Pinterest for free.

Posting on a regular basis on social media is seen by search engines as a healthy activity.

I recommend that you post 2 posts every day on Instagram, 10 Pins on Pinterest, and one video every week on Youtube. Trust me, you’ll see a huge difference in just 1 year if you do what I tell you.

If you want to grow an audience faster, you should hire a social media manager to manage all the tasks, and you’ll be free to focus on other things that’ll help your business grow bigger.

Bloggers & Youtube Influencers:

Another POWERFUL way to get tons of sales and higher domain authority is reaching out to Bloggers and Youtubers that are currently up to doing reviews on their own blogs and Youtube channels.

Those people are currently making passive income with Amazon Affiliate Program and other popular affiliate programs, but if you can convince them to write an article or create a video, and link back to your landing page, you’ll be making money from that product for a long time to come.

This concept is very simple, you just type in the name of a product in both Google and Youtube, find blogs that are ranking on the first page of Google, check them all out on SimilarWeb, then make a list of at least 50 blogs, and start contacting them on their Contact page. When it comes to Youtube, you need to find an email address of the Youtuber, so you’ll have to jump to their Youtube Channel and check many video descriptions, if you find emails there, create an email template, and send it to them all.
You should ask them to promote your product for a flat fee or a commission per sale, most of them go for flat fees because apparently, they don’t trust you, you should not trust them either.

If the blog looks legit, and has lots of good content, send them 50% of what you agreed on, and don’t send the other 50% until they get the article done and link to your store.

I need to warn you before you go ask someone about their price and tell you $2k… In some case, Bloggers and Youtubers, can ask for huge amounts of money in order for them to do what you want them to do. But in the end, it’s up to you to take a look at their audience and decide if they worth it or not.

As I said before, you can check the stats of the blog for free on SimilarWeb, make sure the top 5 countries they get traffic from are tier 1 countries. and when it comes to Youtubers, check them out on SocialBlade.

Create A Blog To Your Store:

Creating a 2000 words blog post every week on your Shopify blog is a thing you won’t regret in the long run. I know it because I did the same to one of my branded stores, and within the first 3 months, I started seeing some important changes in ROI.

The kind of posts you want to be writing (or outsourcing to a professional writer) is the “12 Essential Camping Gear Items” kind of posts. I don’t mean you should get into the camping niche, I mean that you need to write articles in which you talk to a certain audience, and show it how a list f your products is going to help them while doing something they like to do, and make their lives easier.

You may as well create reviews articles, or compare a variety of products that solve the same problem, and then help people choose the one variation that’ll work for them.

It’s a lot of work to be done indeed, but only the serious people who take action get the best things in life, and achieve the goals they set to themselves.

The beauty of having high domain authority is the fact that you’ll start ranking high for almost every new article or product you post in a small amount of time, so make sure you start implementing today, and start getting the results sooner than later.

Make sure to share this very valuable piece of content with your ecommerce entrepreneur friends, and let them know how much money they’re leaving on the table. Have a nice journey, and as always, create your own good luck.
