Looking back at the very first days of Shopify Dropshipping, it was very easy to get yourself started with advertising, all you had to do was creating a Facebook Ads campaign with an Image as your ad, and people would go crazy about it just the way Chief Wiggum goes about D’oh nuts.
After that, Facebook started pushing people toward using Video Ads, the way they did it was raising CPM for Picture ads, and driving it down for video ads, so everyone had to change the way they used to advertise, in order for them to stay profitable.
Time passed by, and there were a lot of complaints from big
Then the time came for Cambridge Analytica’s name to become famous and make Facebook users (aka Facebook Product) aware of how Facebook is an unsafe place for their information, the thing that made a lot of people leave Facebook once and for all.
That Cambridge Analytica’s week was the worst in Facebook’s
This is the story of Facebook in the past 7 years, and if you’re tired of them bullying you, you should have understood that they don’t want your business model on their platform, so you should look for somewhere else to advertise your business until you learn more and become a pro.
I do believe you haven’t tried any other advertising platform other than Facebook, which is a shame. You heard all the gurus talking about Dropshipping and Facebook Ads, and you thought that the only way to make money on ecommerce is through Facebook, which is WRONG.
I’ve been using Youtube Ads, Google Shopping Ads, Pinterest Ads, and a lot of other advertising methods you’ve never heard of for about one year, and I’m seeing some massive ROIs and Conversion Rates that I’ve never been able to see using Facebook Ads.
I don’t mean that Facebook Ads are not profitable anymore, I’m just saying that they’re not beginner
If you’re new to the dot com world, I highly recommend that you start with Youtube Ads, and go back to Facebook when the time is right to scale your business.
A- Why Youtube Ads:
Unlike Facebook, creating a new campaign is Youtube Ads is very easy and beginner friendly, everything about it is simple, and can be mastered within few days, but the fact that Google is willing to offer you $100 to spend in ads for free once you hit $25 is just AMAZING!
Think about this: would they be giving you $100 for free if they know they won’t be making more than that with you? They are sure you’ll find what you need in Youtube Ads and you’ll keep on buying ads from them for years to come because they know how powerful their system is.
When it comes to Facebook disabling your ad account, this problem is no longer with Youtube, if they find out that the video you’re using is not yours, they won’t allow you to advertise using that particular video, and they’ll disapprove your ads until you decide to man-up and create your own content.
What Facebook does in this matter is disabling your ad account, and if not, they’ll approve your ad and raise your CPM to the roof, while Youtube is ready to forgive and give tons of second chances.
But the best thing is the difference between the definition of an “Impression” between both these platforms. While Facebook counts every 3-second view as an impression, Youtube doesn’t see it as an impression until the one watching your ad hits over 30 seconds or clicks the link (whichever comes first) anything different than that isn’t considered as an impression, and it won’t be included in your bill.
Let’s give an example so you’ll have a clear thought in mind… Let’s suppose you’re watching a video on Youtube, and suddenly you’re being served a ClickFunnels ad, if you skipped the ad within the first 30 seconds, you’re not considered as an impression, and
Another key reason you SHOULD be using Youtube Ads is the stability of their performance. Unlike Facebook Ads, once you find audiences that react to your product the way you want in Youtube Ads, you’ll always be having close amounts of sales every day.
I already told you that Facebook Ads can easily get on your nerves, one day you’ll have 52 sales, the other you’ll have only 18 with the same ad spent, and you may start cursing, screaming, and maybe hitting walls with your poor forehead.
B- The Kind of Video Ads You Should Use on Youtube:
You already saw tons of Youtube Ads while watching random videos, so you have noticed that you can skip the ad within 5 seconds.
As an advertiser, I focus on producing commercials that would attract my audience within the first 5 seconds, and the first way to achieve that is to advertise products that solve problems my audience have in real life, I love to remind them of times they wanted a solution to that problem, but they didn’t find any.
You need to focus on producing commercials in which the first 5 seconds makes people interested in what the video has to show them, otherwise, the campaign wouldn’t be spending a
Another important thing you need to know while producing the video is that you’ll have to start talking about the product at some point before you even get close to 30 seconds. The reason you should start doing this is to eliminate those from your audience who don’t have any intention of buying anything, and that
Make sure to give them the impression that you’re trying to sell them a product so they can say “What the heck” and skip the ad before they hit the 30
Your video should be in the range of 45 to 100 second, and should contain a call to action at the end of every section, in addition to some sort of explanation on where to click to visit your landing page, because people can sometimes be dumb, and need a shepherd to guide them through.
C- How To Create a Profitable Youtube Ads Campaign Right Now:
If you don’t already have a Google Ads Account, you can create one by clicking here.
1- Campaign Type and Preferences:
Once you set your ad account up and have everything in place, create a new campaign.
For the goal of my
You may as well leave your campaign with no goal and
After you proceed to the next part, give a name to your campaign, and a budget, make sure the budget is set to daily, with standard delivery. For the bidding strategy, I always go for Maximum CPV (Cost Per View).
When it comes to the Network, I only show my ads On Youtube search results, and Youtube videos. The language and country depend on where you want to advertise.
If you’re doing local
I don’t change anything about the “Content exclusions” part because I don’t really think it affects the performance of my ads.
Limiting the number of impressions for each user helps
When it comes to the ad schedule, I like to run my ads from Mondays to Fridays at
2- Ad Group or Target Audience:
This is the part in which you’ll find out how powerful Youtube Ads are!
Now to start with the targeting, give your ad group a name you’d recognize first. Then choose the demographics of your target audience like Gender, Age, Parental Status, and Household Income.
The first thing I do is uncheck “Unknown” from these options, and the turn comes for learning more about the audience. Facebook’s Audience Insights can be helpful to get this done.
The household income option is so powerful, especially when trying to sell high ticket items.
When it comes to targeting an audience, google has it all figured out, you may have thought that Facebook Ads is the bes and only one of its kind, but you were wrong my friend… Google Ads can be more powerful when it comes to targeting the ones that are more likely to engage with your product.
You can target people by what they’re interested in, their habits, and what they’re actively searching and planning.
More than that, you can choose the topics you want your ads on, and you can even choose a particular channel or video in which you want your ad to appear, like if you’re selling a travel-related product, you can choose a travel-related video or channel, or just select travel-related topics that are more likely to come along with your product, and people watching that content will be seeing your ad.
I don’t recommend using Keywords, it would sound good, but it’s not as good as it sounds when we’re talking about Youtube Ads. They can come handy when going for Google Shopping campaigns and Search Ads.
You may find it stressful as a beginner to decide how much your bid will be, but let me clarify how I do it, my perfect bid for the CPV lies between $0.05 and $0.25 depends on the niche. you can always start by $0.1 as your bid, and adjust it when you find out how much you actually pay for every view.
The last thing is to put the link for your video ad that you intend to use for your campaign, and you’ll be good to go.
The next part will be creating more ad groups to test as many audience as possible, for a niche product I’d add 2 other ad groups to see how the product performs in each one of them, and you may as well consider testing each audience with at least 2 different video ads, because sometimes people like one but skip all the others, so you have to test and see for yourself.
D- How To Convert More People From The Same Amount of Traffic In 3 Steps (Bonus Content):
In order for you to maximize your conversion rate, you need to look and sound professional when it comes to where you’ll make people land.
I personally hate the regular product pages, and I never use them. Instead, I make a custom landing page for every product (and every audience if the product is very broad).
I love creating landing pages that talk to the audience from the way the product’s
I always make sure to include a phone number in the landing page alongside with testimonials, live chat, and frequently asked questions, so people would have all the questions in their mind answered, which makes them consider my brand as a trusted brand, then click the call to action button insted of being anxious about my brand, then bouncing from my landing page.
I use Shogun Page Builder to build my landing pages, it’s a lot like building a landing page with ClickFunnels or Thrive Themes, except it’s a Shopify app which is not as pricy as the other options.
I wrote a whole article on how to create stunning landing pages that convert, so make sure to read the valuable insights I
The second step is eliminating all the unnecessary steps such as the cart page, so I use the app One-Click Checkout and when my customer clicks the buy now button, they’re redirected straight to the checkout without going through the boring Add To Cart Page.
The third step is having a one-step checkout process, because I noticed that the standard 3-pages Shopify checkout process is not as good as the one-step checkout process used by ClickFunnels and other funnel builders, that’s why I use CartHook to make my Shopify store’s checkout as powerful as possible, and convert more people instead of annoying them with the long process and drive them to abandon their checkout.
If you want to learn how to turn your Shopify sales funnel into a powerful one that converts more, take a look at my Shopify vs Clickfunnels article to understand the differences and apply them to your Shopify store.
So instead of putting all your eggs in one basket, try other advertising platforms, while investing a decent amount of time in making your store SEO Friendly, because SEO is the future.
